Visualizing Statistical Complexity in 3D Turbulent Flows using a Robust Entropy Calculation Method

Highly resolved flow simulation data is becoming more common. These simulations frequently feature high tur- bulence with complex patterns. Finding these regions often requires expert knowledge, and in cases, patterns of interest may remain hidden. The concept statistical complexity was shown to be suitable indicate within limited prior knowledge. One way determine the fields via local vector field entropy correlation. In this work, we improve method for calculating Shannon fields. To end, introduce a robust compu- tation that takes scale corresponding into account. improved uses novel distributions required calculation applicable unstructured domains. We val- idate our analytic apply it fluid data, visualizing results volume rendering. This work shows applicability technique highlight turbulent flows.
